Fishing vessel grounds near Jeju’s Chagwido; all 11 aboard safe

A 24-ton fishing vessel grounded on rocks south of Chagwido, Jeju, and was freed about five hours later. All 11 people aboard were safe and no flooding was found.

All 11 people aboard were wearing life jackets

The Coast Guard received the report at about 9:16 AM on October 4, roughly 100 metres south of Chagwido. The vessel carried four Korean and seven foreign crew members, and no injuries were reported.

The vessel returned to Hallim under its own power

At about 2:54 PM, after the tide rose, another vessel from the same fleet helped pull it clear. A roughly 40 cm area of hull damage was later found, but there was no flooding. The vessel reached Hallim Port at about 4:28 PM while authorities continued investigating the cause.
