KEPCO employee data exposed for about 24,000 staff; customer data kept separate

Personal information for roughly 24,000 Korea Electric Power Corp. employees was exposed on an external webpage. KEPCO says ordinary customer data was not part of the incident.

Employee contact data appeared on an external page

KEPCO detected the exposure on October 1, blocked access to the related internal system and asked the external page operator to remove the data. Resident registration numbers and other sensitive identifiers were not included, according to the company.

The cause is still under investigation

KEPCO says it has not identified evidence of hacking so far and is investigating the cause with relevant authorities. Customer information is stored in a separate dedicated system and was not exposed in this incident.
