Ahry Keem’s Paranoia: a space changed by feedback
A 33-second excerpt from Ahry Keem’s Paranoia traces a feedback loop of cameras, viewers and images. Blue, green and red overlap as a place turns into an image.
How the work is made
The artist describes the work as documentation of a hardware-installation performance at Windmill, Seoul, in 2025. CCTV captures audience interventions and signals from the room, which enter an analog-digital video-feedback system.
As the space is re-recorded and the signals loop back, the recognizable room gradually turns into abstract movement and residual noise.
On screen
The excerpt is built from saturated layers of colour and restless patterns. Shapes persist or give way to other colours, and the point at which the place becomes unrecognizable is central to the work.
The artist
Gallery sangheeut’s biography says Keem worked in art direction for film and music videos before turning to the relationships between sound, image and a particular place.
That experience of building visual worlds carries into this work, which feeds a space back into an image-making apparatus.
