Free Garden Expo in Seoul Forest & Seongsu, Closing Oct. 27 (167 Gardens)

Why NOW picked itCloses at 7 p.m., so it suits a weekend afternoon walk rather than an after-work stop. Free English docent tours (3 and 5 p.m.) help with foreign friends; if you'd rather sit quietly with a book, Seoul Outdoor Library is the better pick.

Zero admission, no booking. The Seoul International Garden Expo, with 167 gardens spread around Seoul Forest, closes on Tuesday, Oct. 27. This weekend is effectively the last one.

The last week

The garden expo that opened on May 1 closes on Tuesday, Oct. 27. It has been open the whole 180 days and viewing is free.

Hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Seoul Forest itself stays open to walk through after expo hours.

167 gardens

Artist, participation, companion and charm gardens add up to 167. Examples named by the city include 'Under the Flowing Forest' east of the Seoul Forest lawn and 'Garden of Waiting' at Seongsu Handmade Shoes Park.

30 linear gardens and 5 river-view gardens string Seoul Forest, the Seongsu alleys and the Han River together, among them 'Band of Light' at Seoul Forest Station Exit 5 and 'Meta Forest Garden' at Ttukseom Hangang Park.

English tours cost nothing

Missed a slot? The smart-guide tour is always available in 9 languages.

Arrive by boat

The Hangang Bus 'Seoul Forest pier' stops temporarily until Oct. 30: 16 calls a day, 8 toward Jamsil and 8 toward Yeouido, 3,000 won for a standard ticket.

It is a stop added for the expo, so expect it to disappear after the season.

Before you go

The subway is easiest from Seoul Forest Station, Exit 5. Gardens differ a lot, so building the day around a docent slot saves time.

The 'Garden Hunters' treasure hunt costs 5,000 won extra. No parking information was published, so take public transport.
