Serving police officer arrested in AI sexual-abuse material case; about 5,600 videos seized

An undercover Telegram investigation led to the arrest of a serving police officer suspected of creating and distributing AI-manipulated sexual-abuse material. Investigators say about 5,600 illegal videos were found on seized devices.

Undercover investigators identified the distributor

Busan police used an authorized undercover investigation in a Telegram chat to trace the distributor and identified the suspect as a serving officer at Seoul's Dongdaemun Police Station. The officer was detained last month and has been removed from duty.

Seized files included multiple illegal categories

According to SBS, investigators found about 2,600 manipulated videos and roughly 1,600 child and youth sexual-abuse files among about 5,600 illegal videos. The suspect is also accused of directly creating more than 400 manipulated videos using AI apps.
