From job preparation to band practice: Gyeonggi plans wider support for youth spaces

Gyeonggi Province plans to expand support for its youth spaces in 2027. The spaces support young people’s everyday activities, from job preparation and meetings to music practice, and 48 are operating in the province, including those set up independently by cities and counties.

Youth spaces offer everything from job and startup preparation to meetings and cultural and leisure programs. The facility types described by the province include shared kitchens for people living alone.

Cheongnyeondong in Gwangmyeong has a coworking area and lounge open without reservations. Its meeting rooms, multipurpose rooms, band rooms and media and recording studio must be booked. The rooms are laid out for meetings, instrument practice, and recording and video work.

According to Gwangmyeong City, Cheongnyeondong is open to people aged 19–39 who live or are active in the city. Use is free for members.

Standard rooms can be booked on the official website from two weeks before the visit through the day of use, once a day for up to three hours. The SPACE:D event venue requires a separate telephone inquiry.

Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Future Generations Foundation outlined next year’s direction at an operators’ event at Cheongnyeondong on October 8. The plan released by the province on October 9 includes supporting more spaces, a framework for evaluating outstanding spaces and new linked programs.

The province helped establish 24 spaces between 2018 and 2026. The total of 48 operating spaces also includes facilities set up by local governments on their own.

The announcement did not say how many more spaces will be supported or who can apply for new programs and when. Recruitment for next year will be announced later. Facility-specific conditions for Cheongnyeondong are available from Gwangmyeong City and the operator at 02-2066-8134.
