Call of Duty Comes to Seoul: Modern Warfare 4 Launches Oct. 23 With a Korean Soldier as Hero
The world's best-known shooter series has a new hero, and he is a Korean private. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on Oct. 23, and its stage is the Korean Peninsula.
This time the stage is Korea
The campaign hero is Private Park Hyun-jun, a young soldier of the Republic of Korea going into real combat for the first time. A routine mission turns upside down when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, and his squad has to hold on in the middle of a collapsing city.
The series' face, Captain Price, moves separately, a rogue operator hunting a weapon strong enough to shift the balance of power.
Seoul in the trailer
Hankyung describes the reveal trailer as opening with South Korean and US soldiers patrolling Seoul when a blackout comes before a surprise attack. There is also downtown fighting inspired by Sungnyemun.
Beyond Korea, the campaign also visits New York, Paris and Mumbai.

Korean players are split
Reactions in Korea are mixed, according to Sports Kyunghyang. Some see proof of Korea's rising profile and others say it is just a game, while some fans feel uneasy about showing armed conflict on a peninsula still under an armistice.
