Kang-Hyo Lee: the rhythm left on clay
Goldmark Gallery’s roughly 36-second promo for its 2026 Kang-Hyo Lee exhibition, released August 19, shows the artist’s pottery up close: layered white slip and rounded forms.
The film
Kang-Hyo Lee Exhibition Promo | 2026 is an official film of about 36 seconds. Close views of finished forms and surfaces alternate with images of the artist. The contrast between the clay body and its lighter layers is the film’s main subject.
Buncheong surfaces
Lee’s work connects Korean onggi construction with buncheong decoration. Onggi is the tradition of large storage jars used for foods including fermented ingredients.
Buncheong applies white slip, a liquid clay mixture, over a darker clay body. The white layer is not a uniform coating; it records brushing, movement and overlapping marks.
How he works
According to Woonjoong Gallery, Lee layers slips of different colours and applies them with his hands, body movements and brushes, sometimes splashing them on. Samulnori, Korean percussion music, accompanies the work. The promo does not demonstrate the full process, but the marks on the pots trace the artist’s gestures.
Release and exhibition
Goldmark Gallery uploaded the official promo on August 19, 2026, ahead of the September 12 opening it announced for its fourth major Lee exhibition.
