A bold synthesizer opening, driving band arrangement and crowd-ready chorus turn a private declaration into something close to a communal anthem.
Listen for
Listen to the opening synth figure and the moment the drums, guitar and voice surge together in the chorus.
What else to know
With the MBC College Musicians Festival active again in 2026, this is the most natural starting point for understanding Shin’s musical history.
Behind the song
Written and composed by Shin Hae-chul. Muhangwedo won the grand prize with the song at the 12th MBC College Musicians Festival in 1988, marking the public beginning of Shin’s career.
WHY KOREA LOVES THEM
Shin’s work goes beyond hit songs: it traces how Korean youth culture changed from the late 1980s into the 2000s. With the MBC College Musicians Festival active again in 2026 and its final scheduled in Busan on Oct. 31, revisiting an artist whose career began on that stage gives the archive a clear present-day connection.
