Free Tuna-Cutting Show and a Real Fish Auction at Noryangjin Fish Market, Oct. 24-25

Why NOW picked itGood for a weekend afternoon that mixes a seafood meal with a show. Saturday's opening is at 6 p.m. followed by a concert, and market restaurants halve the table-setting fee during the festival.

For two days from Saturday, Noryangjin Fish Market and the field next to it turn into a festival ground. The 9th Downtown Sea Festival has a live tuna-breaking show, a chance to join a real auction, and half-price table-setting fees at the market's restaurants.

Saturday: 6 p.m. opening, then the concert

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Chung-Ang University cheer squad and a Hidden Singer tribute act come first. After the 6 p.m. opening ceremony, the 'BLUE SEA Concert' features Kim Yeon-ja, Kim Hyun-jung, Im Da-woon and Ryu Won-jung.

Sunday brings the winners of the Nodeul song contest, 'Sea Trot LIVE' with Kim So-yu, Hong Dan-bi and Shin Seung-tae, and a closing event called 'SEE YOU, SEA!'.

Cut a tuna, learn the auction hand signs

Chef Yang Seung-ho breaks down a whole tuna on stage. In 'Auction King for a Day' you learn the hand signals and then join a real auction. Kids get shrimp catching with scoop nets, a fishing pond and a wave playground.

There are also craft workshops for mood lamps, beach bags, bracelets and key rings.

If eating is the real plan

A direct-sale seafood market brings specialties from across the country, with food trucks and stalls alongside. During the festival, restaurants inside the fish market cut the table-setting fee by 50%.

An event listing gives admission as free and programme hours as noon to 9 p.m. Exact times for the tuna show and the auction were not announced, so check the boards on site.
