Kakao’s KRW 4,900 membership: what do you actually get?

Kakao has launched its first integrated membership, bundling shopping, payments, content, finance and insurance. The idea is to make several benefits overlap for people who already use Kakao services frequently.

Shopping and payment rewards are the core

Gift and TokDeal purchases earn 0.5–5% in shopping points, capped at 20,000 points a month. Paying with Kakao Pay Money adds up to 1% online and 2% offline in Kakao Pay points, with a combined monthly cap of 50,000 points.

Choose either unlimited emoticons or 130GB cloud storage

Each month members can select either Emoticon Plus or 130GB of Talk Cloud storage. KakaoPage also includes 2,000 cash monthly, so the subscription can make more sense for people who already pay for Kakao content or need automatic chat and media backup.

Finance and device insurance broaden the bundle

Kakao Pay Securities offers up to KRW 4,900 a month in cashback on domestic-stock selling fees, while eligible phone-screen repairs can be covered up to KRW 70,000. Kakao’s main difference is that it combines financial and insurance benefits with shopping and content.

Who is it best for?

The value is strongest for people who frequently use Gift, TokDeal and Kakao Pay and would otherwise pay for Emoticon Plus or Talk Cloud. If those services are rarely used, it is better to compare the KRW 4,900 fee with your actual monthly usage rather than the theoretical total value of every benefit.
