Spa Land: a jjimjilbang inside Busan’s Shinsegae Centum City

Shinsegae Centum City in Busan, entered in Guinness World Records as the world’s largest department store in 2009, houses Spa Land, a hot-spring bathhouse and jjimjilbang, on its first floor. Visitors can move from shopping to hot-spring baths, sauna rooms and a bowl of ramyeon in one building. Adult admission is KRW 26,000 for a standard four hours.

The Guinness record: 293,905 m²

Guinness lists Shinsegae Centumcity Department Store under “Largest department store,” with a record date of June 26, 2009 and an area of 293,905 m². The public record page still showed those details when checked on October 12, 2026.

The figure is the department store’s area; it is neither Spa Land’s area nor a largest-shopping-mall record.

Natural hot-spring water

Spa Land’s entrance is on the department store’s first floor. Busan Metro Line 2’s Centum City Station connects directly to the store, so shopping and the spa are easy to combine without a car.

Shinsegae says Spa Land uses two types of natural hot-spring water drawn from 1,000 metres underground. The operator lists 18 hot-spring baths and 13 sauna and jjimjilbang themes.

Themed sauna rooms

Jjimjilbang are Korean-style sauna and relaxation spaces. According to Visit Busan, visitors put their shoes in a locker and then receive two towels and a top-and-bottom outfit at the counter.

The Finnish sauna, Roman-inspired sauna and salt room each have different materials and atmosphere. In the Wave Dream Room, moving water casts rippling light onto the ceiling.

Shinsegae’s official guide marks the women-only open-air bath as not operating, so it is worth checking which facilities are open before visiting.

Rest areas and food

After the sauna rooms, visitors can rest in reclining chairs in the Relax Room. Food and drink options include a restaurant, a cafe and beverage bar, and Ottogi Ramyeon Land, which serves a selection of Ottogi noodles. The official guide also lists a game room, and Visit Busan’s feature shows a photo booth. The massage chairs pictured in the archive are separate from the Relax Room’s recliners.

Food, drink and additional services are charged separately from admission.
