Why NOW picked itA fit if you want to mix your own kimchi and carry it home. Entry is free, but the salted cabbage for kimjang has to be pre-booked. If you drive, the drive-through booths let you make it and load it straight into the car.
Mix the seasoning into the cabbage yourself and carry the kimchi home: that is the pitch of the Goesan Kimjang Festival, which opens Nov. 5 and runs four days to Nov. 8. Entry is free.
Four days, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The festival is based around the Goesan Organic Expo Plaza, with some activities at Goesan Stadium. It is open from 10:00 to 20:00 each day.
There is no admission fee. Only some of the hands-on activities charge, at 5,000 won.
Book your salted cabbage ahead
In One-Stop Kimjang Making, you pre-book the salted cabbage and fillings, then mix them at the Expo Plaza and take the kimchi home.
There is also a Drive-Through Kimjang: you park at your own booth at Goesan Stadium, make the kimchi and load it straight into the car.

From a kimchi tasting to a grill zone
It is not only about making kimchi. There is a World Kimchi Tasting, K Red Food Street and a grill-your-own zone.
Kimchi masters take part in the Master's Kimjang Workshop, and the National Kimjang Contest runs too. Children and teens get their own kimjang activity.

Questions go to the Goesan County Festival Committee on 043-830-3463; the website is gimjang.kr. The official listing gives no directions, so check the website before you set off. The organiser says the programme may change.
Away from the grounds, village kimjang experiences run in villages around Goesan throughout November.
