Why NOW picked itIf you are in Jeju in early November, fit the five days in first. The Nov. 7 2 p.m. opening comes with an awards ceremony and a garden-city declaration, and the Korea Tourism Organization lists it as free.
Jeju's first garden culture expo runs Nov. 6 to 10 around Baram-moru Park in Seogwipo's Jeju Innovation City. The Korea Tourism Organization's event record lists it as free, open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wind between stone walls is the theme
This year's theme is 'Breath of the wind between stone walls, blooming as a garden'. The flagship 'Garden of the Wind' is by Seogwipo-born gardener Kim Bong-chan of The Garden. He keeps the existing trees and terrain and plants in a meadow style so the plants move differently with every gust.
The designer gardens show Jeju as creators see it, the exchange garden is about connection through gardens, and the carbon-neutral garden is about recycling and reuse.
Ten resident gardens with udongpat and haenyeo
Ten gardens chosen by open call carry Jeju life and memory, such as the udongpat (the plot beside a house) and haenyeo divers. A 'Sunulum' garden made with a garden academy, city hall clubs and universities is also on show.
The Korea Garden Show designer gardens will stay after the expo ends.
Opening ceremony: Nov. 7, 2 p.m.
The opening ceremony is on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m., with a garden-creation awards ceremony and a garden-city declaration. Listed programmes include Garden Cinema, garden talk shows and concerts, and a garden market and industry show sell plants and garden goods. Participation events such as a garden golden bell quiz and a kids' bubble show are planned.
Check once more before you go
The main gardens were due to be finished by the end of October, followed by checks on planting and visitor routes. Price and hours are the values on the Korea Tourism Organization listing, so check the organisers' notice again closer to opening.
