Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Night Opening Ends Nov. 1, Two Weekends Left, From 2,000 Won

Why NOW picked itA good night out for anyone happy to leave Seoul for an hour to walk a palace after dark. Adults pay 2,000 won and hanbok wearers get in free. Catch the 6 p.m. taekwondo show first.

Hwaseong Haenggung Palace stays open from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and this year's night opening ends on Sunday, Nov. 1. This weekend (Oct. 23 to 25) and the next (Oct. 30 to Nov. 1) are all that is left; adults pay 2,000 won.

A palace you enter after dark

The night opening is called 'Dalbit Hwadam' (moonlight talk). You walk the palace by moonlight and lantern light through four themes: Light of Welcome, Light of Immersion, Play Yard and Space for Reflection.

A 3D hologram and laser exhibition runs alongside. The last entry is 9 p.m., and the ticket office is at the palace.

A taekwondo show at 6 p.m.

From Oct. 16 to Nov. 1, a taekwondo special show runs from 6 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. at Yuyeotaek on Fridays to Sundays. Expect sharp moves and board-breaking; the show itself is free, but palace admission is separate.

Head there first after you enter: it overlaps with dusk, which is the best light.

Wear hanbok and walk in free

Tickets are 2,000 won for adults, 1,500 for teenagers and soldiers, and 1,000 for children. Anyone in hanbok (modernised hanbok counts) enters free, as do children aged 6 and under and visitors 65 and over.

If you are coming with friends from abroad, renting hanbok actually costs less than buying tickets.

The last six nights

The remaining nights are Oct. 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Nov. 1. There is no night opening on weekdays; daytime hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
