NOW

Seoul’s platform screen doors began as a safety barrier against track accidents, but they also changed the station environment by reducing dust and noise and improving cooling efficiency.

FULL COVERAGE BY 2009

Seoul says every station on Lines 1–8 had screen doors by 2009; by 2025, 345 stations including Line 9 and the Ui-Sinseol Line had them.

MORE THAN A PHYSICAL BARRIER

City data says average annual subway accident deaths fell from 37.1 to 0.4, while fine dust dropped about 20% and platform noise by 7.9%.
