Why NOW picked itGood for an after-work evening around Deoksugung. Everything runs to 10 pm both nights, but last entry differs by site, so be inside Seoul Museum of History before 9:30 pm.
For two nights from Oct. 30, 34 museums, churches and heritage sites around Deoksugung in central Seoul stay open late, with free performances and lit-up streets. Seoul's tourism listing calls it free, with some paid experiences.
Opening show: 6:30 pm on Oct. 30, in front of Junghwajeon
Pop-opera group Poet, conductor Baek Yoon-hak with the Ieum Orchestra, and haegeum and daegeum players take the stage at Deoksugung, with Lim Hyung-joo closing.
Outside the palace, Jeongdong First Methodist Church and the Anglican Cathedral host organ and brass-band sets, while the National Jeongdong Theater side has namsadang tightrope walking and taekkyeon demos.
Draw the night view, make a mood lamp
Along the Deoksugung stone-wall road you can listen to buskers, sketch the Jeongdong night view, or make an acrylic mood light or a coffee-grounds keepsake. Neon photo zones shaped like the Pai Chai Hakdang and Seokjojeon stand near the roundabout, and the Pai Chai Historical Museum projects a media-façade piece on Kim Sowol's 'Azaleas'.
Docent-led walks are on too, and 12 stamps on the leaflet earn a souvenir.
Last entry comes before closing time
Open until 10 pm does not mean you can walk in at 9:59. Seoul Museum of History closes entry at 9:30 pm, Seoul Museum of Art at 9 pm and Cecil Maru at 8:30 pm. The Anglican cathedral has an organ recital and interior tour on Friday but is not open inside on Saturday.
Sign-up tours such as the British and Canadian embassies closed on Oct. 16, so there is no walk-in. Seoul's official tourism listing calls the festival free, with some paid experiences.
