Singer Younha's side said on Oct. 26 that she has terminated her exclusive contract with C9 Entertainment over settlement money left unpaid for a long time. She signed with the agency in 2012, so the split ends 14 years together.
Notice went out in September, announced on the 26th
Her legal representative, law firm Ilro, said Younha demanded a fix for the unpaid settlement money over a long period, it was not carried out, and the termination notice followed in September.
According to her side, C9 confirmed in an official letter that the termination took effect on Sept. 14. The reports carry no direct statement from C9.
A lawsuit is already under way
Money Today reports Younha has sued C9 for a declaration that the exclusive contract is void and for about 950 million won in unpaid settlement money, and has also applied for an injunction to suspend the contract.
Her side says the remaining issues will be settled through the legal process.
14 years of 'Event Horizon' singer
Younha first signed with C9 in 2012 and renewed twice. She is known for 'Password 486', 'Comet' and 'Waiting', and 'Event Horizon' climbed the charts again in 2022.
What happens next
Her side says she will keep making music. It asked media not to speculate and said C9's other artists and staff have nothing to do with the dispute.
Most of what is public so far comes from Younha's side; that could change if C9 responds officially.
