LG's New STEM Fridge Turns Its Middle Drawer Into a Fridge or Freezer, With AI Fresh Care
LG Electronics launched a new STEM ice-water refrigerator on Oct. 26 with the bottom freezer rebuilt as drawers. The middle one flips between fridge and freezer, and an AI feature learns how you use it to adjust cooling.
Open the drawer, see everything from above
The old double-door bottom freezer is now a middle drawer and a lower drawer. You look down into them and lift food out instead of bending over. The lower drawer is a freezer with an automatic ice maker.
The middle drawer is a freezer or a fridge
The 'convertible drawer' in the middle flips between freezing and chilling. In the ThinQ app you pick one of 14 storage modes, from baby food and meal kits to wine, kimchi, meat and fish, or just ask by voice.
What the AI actually does
'AI Fresh Care' learns your usage pattern and cools intensively before you start cooking. 'AI Saving Mode' trims compressor activity in quiet hours to save power.
Fresh-food compartments go from one to two, with a UV deodorising filter+ and a Pure Fresh filter.
Flush against the wall, serviced every three months
It needs just 4 mm at each side and 9 mm on top, 40% less top clearance than before. There is a 6.8-inch touch display, and the direct water line feeds craft, cube and sculpted ice.
The subscription visit every three months swaps filters and cleans water lines, the drain outlet and the door gasket; the rear machine compartment is cleaned every 36 months.
