Korea SIM vs eSIM vs Rental Phone: Where to Get Data at Incheon and Gimpo Airports
Most people want data before they leave the arrivals hall. Visit Seoul's official guide (checked Oct. 27, 2026) lists three ways: rent a phone at the airport, buy a prepaid SIM, or set up an eSIM before you fly.
A prepaid SIM takes minutes at the CU by the gate
Incheon's 1st-floor arrivals hall has CU convenience stores by Gates 5, 10 and 13, open 24 hours. The bookstore by Gate 7 sells them too, 08:00 to 20:00. On level B1, the AREX Airport Rail transportation center sells data-only SIMs from 09:00 to 19:00.
At Gimpo, the 7-11 on the international terminal's 3rd floor is open around the clock. You can also order online and pick the SIM up at Incheon.
Bring your passport and a credit card for a rental phone
LG, SK and KT run counters in the arrivals lobbies at Incheon and Gimpo. You need a passport and a credit card, and the phone goes back to the counter you rented it from. Expect about KRW 3,000 a day plus KRW 100 per 10 seconds of outgoing calls; incoming calls are free. Data usually runs around KRW 5,000 a day.
Incheon is open 24 hours, Gimpo 07:00 to 23:00, so a late Gimpo landing may find the counters shut.
eSIM: sort it out before you board
A prepaid eSIM is bought online and delivered by email or QR code, so there is no shop to visit. Many phones released after 2019 support it, but yours must be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible.
Check your phone's settings before you buy.
Or lean on free Wi-Fi
Seoul has nearly 10,000 free Wi-Fi hot spots at transit hubs, airports, libraries, hospitals, universities and many tourist sights, and KTX trains have internet too. A PC bang costs about KRW 1,000 to 2,000 an hour.
If maps and translation apps will be open all day, a SIM or eSIM is easier. Figures follow Visit Seoul's page; double-check it before you fly.
